How the Program Works

Farm to You is a mobile program that rotates to each participating clinic twice per month from May through November. We currently serve each clinic through a pop-up “farm stand” where patients can drop in and choose from a variety of fresh produce options delivered by our farmers that morning. Patients can build a produce share based on their preferences, and every produce item we offer comes with a quick, easy, healthy recipe handout.

Coming Summer 2023: Mobile Teaching Kitchen!

In the summer of 2023, Farm to You will have a special vehicle that doubles as a mobile teaching kitchen and free farmers’ market! The vehicle will park outside each clinic, offering produce shares, healthy cooking demonstrations and recipe samples at Farm to You events.

Participation

There are two ways patients can participate in the Farm to You program: through a prescription from their healthcare provider, or through the clinic-wide option.

  1. Prescriptions from a Provider: Patients with specific health conditions and nutrition needs are referred to the program by their healthcare provider, and then formally enrolled by Farm to You staff if space allows. These patients receive guaranteed (reserved) produce shares at each event, and agree to participate regularly from May through November. These individuals are also asked to participate in a program evaluation that measures the impacts and effectiveness of the program (WVU IRB#).

  2. Clinic-Wide Option: All patients who receive care at participating Farm to You clinics have access to the clinic-wide option. At each event, a certain amount of produce is available for any active clinic patient to drop in and pick up a produce share. These patients are also invited to take home recipes and attend the cooking demonstration. There are no eligibility or enrollment requirements for this option, and produce is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
